Tips to help prevent mask irritation

The pandemic has us all wearing masks on a regular basis and touching our faces with hand sanitized hands. If you have sensitive skin or are prone to acne, this can be a recipe for disaster. Here are a few quick tips to help ease the discomfort.

  1. Try to wear a cotton mask and wash it each day. If you are wearing masks daily, order a supply so you have clean ones on hand while you are washing your dirties. One of my clients in Oregon makes beautiful soft masks and ships them directly to you. This is her Etsy store. You’ll probably see me in one of her black masks while working on you!

  2. Sounds funny, but try not to store your mask in your purse…those things are typically filthy and are rarely cleaned. I tie mine to the side of my purse so it gets air and I have it handy when shopping.

  3. Dab the sweat and condensation with a clean kleenex, NOT with your dirty (or hand sanitized) hand. Hand sanitizer is mostly alcohol and it can and will irritate your face. And you wall know my mantra, “Don’t touch your face!.” This was important before COVID19…now its crucial!

  4. Find a mask that fits better. The ones I ordered are tie and both sides (again from this etsy store), so I can customize an exact fit. With a better fit, you’ll be less likely to absentmindedly touch and adjust your mask as often. Less touching=good.

  5. Get naked. When ever you are not in a group of people, take the mask off. Let your face be freeee!

  6. Use a mask each week to help remove built up skin and debris on your face. I suggest a peel at home. Buy now
